Here is what I want to do: I want to build a community for users of both wordpress.org and wordpress.com with multiple features.

WEBSITE FEATURES

  1. Responsive. The site MUST be fully-responsive. No questions asked. In today’s world it makes no sense to create a site that isn’t responsive. That means EVERY feature on the site must be responsive too.
  2. Forum. This site would include a fully-functional forum where people can search for help using WordPress. I just want to make sure it has a good UI and “social” feel.
  3. Micro-job Marketplace. The site would need to include a micro-job platform (like fiverr.com) where WP developers can do small coding jobs or fix small problems for a minimum of $5 (larger projects would obviously require a higher dollar amount).
  4. Membership. This may grow into a full membership site, so it will need to be built with that in mind, but I don’t know that that will be a version 1.0 feature.
  5. Advertising. One of the streams of revenue on the site will be advertising and affiliate relationships. The site will need to be set up to easily manage both.

TOOLS I’M CONSIDERING USING

  • THEME: Although I would like to use the Divi theme by Elegant Themes (because I’m familiar with it), there is an existing theme that would (maybe) solve the micro-job need (Feature #3). It can be seen here: http://bit.ly/1ht45ap .
  • FORUM: I’m thinking I would like this built using the bbPress plug-in or BuddyPress plug-in, but I’m open to another forum plugin if you feel you are better able to work with it.
  • WPMU: I would like to offer WordPress tutorial videos on the site, and WPMU ( https://premium.wpmudev.org/ ) has white-label videos that I can integrate. Plus they have a TON of other plugins that could be useful. As the technical co-founder, I would expect you to look into WPMU to see if it would be worth the cost.
  • MEMBERSHIP: As mentioned, this may need to move to a full membership site. I own one license for WishList Member, so that could be used when the time comes. Otherwise, WPMU has a membership plug-in. Again, this would be a future release, but I want the co-founder to know this is possible.

WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER THIS OPPORTUNITY

The technical aspect of what needs to be created is pretty simple for a good WP developer because most of the tools already exists in the form of themes and plug-ins. It’s just a matter of putting it all together into a slick looking website with a good UI. Once built, you could be the first developer in the micro-job marketplace so right out of the gate you could start doing micro-jobs to earn an extra income while we are waiting for the community to grow and everything to monetize.

Once the site is complete, outside of possible scale issues as the community grows, almost everything else is on me. It will be my job to build traffic to the site and get members.

Even though you would be a co-founder, I am not asking for any financial contribution from you. I just want you to put in the sweat equity to build the site and deal with any bugs or issues that arise as people begin to use it. In truth, I could probably build the website myself, because I’ve got a fair amount of experience with working with themes and plugins, but I now my limitations and I think it’s important that the person I work with be an actual coder that can work on the site at the code level if needed. Plus, I bet a coder could do it a LOT faster than I could.

Case study: There is one competitor that I know of for the micro-job site. It’s called wpcurve.com. Here is a blurb from “The 7-Day Startup” about this:

wpCurve

The rest of that story is that the site earned $1000 the first month and grew at a rate of 15% per month. After 13 months, they were making $33,000 per month in gross revenue.

Essentially, this project will do the same thing, but it will offer a much more cost-effective solution. Also, instead of a monthly membership, revenue will be generated not just from the micro-job feature, but also through advertising and webinars.

I’m confident that I could get someone to build the full site for me for about $1000 through Elance, but that’s not what I want. I want someone that can OWN the technology side of the business so that I can focus on marketing to build traffic which will result in both user-members and developer-members. I also don’t have the technical background to answer a lot of the help questions that will certainly come through, so I need someone that can handle those as well (perhaps through help tickets).

If you’re interested in this opportunity, let’s arrange a Skype call so we can discuss your interest.

Thank you for reading through this, and I look forward to your response.
